Why do we need this review?
The Victorian Government committed to an independent review at the last state election.
This independent review reflects the Victorian Government’s commitment to ensure injured workers receive fair support and benefits and recognises that while the underlying principles of accident compensation laws remain sound, incremental changes have made them unnecessarily complex.

How long will the review take?
Mr Hanks QC is due to provide his report to the Minister in 2008. The Government will then determine its response and implementation timings.
How can I input into the review?
A formal public comment period, supported by a public discussion paper, will be held in early 2008.

Who is running the review?
The review will be undertaken by Peter Hanks QC and supported by a joint Department of Treasury and Finance and WorkSafe Victoria Secretariat.
Peter Hanks QC will meet and consult regularly with a stakeholder reference group established by the Minister.
